The Co-operative for Companion Animals Announces a

Non-profit 'High Volume Spay and Neuter Service' Initiative

The Co-operative for Companion Animals, a 'grass roots' consortium of London-based animal rescue groups, is launching plans to develop a non-profit 'High Volume Spay and Neuter Service' in the City of London for feral & roaming community cats and dogs, as well as for pets of low-income families. We anticipate serving animals originating from the City of London as well as those from counties of Middlesex, Oxford, Huron, Lambton, Elgin, Perth, Brant, and the Region of Waterloo.

Overpopulation of dogs and cats is at a crisis level in Ontario, including within London and the surrounding region. Rescue group volunteers are overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of homeless animals requiring their care, while awaiting their new, adoptive homes. Many animals end up in shelters where thousands of healthy, adoptable animals are killed. As one facet of responsible pet guardianship, this problem is best addressed by sterilizing as many dogs and cats as possible and encouraging owners to spay and neuter their pets.

The Co-operative for Companion Animals needs to raise at least $300,000 for this endeavour. We are currently seeking an appropriate clinic site that will be developed to support the 'High Volume Spay and Neuter Service' activities. Donations are gratefully accepted towards the cost of renovations, equipment and initial start-up expenses.

Donations for this very important service for our region can be made:

-- By the internet. Go to the Animal Outreach web-site http://www.animaloutreach.ca and click on the “CanadaHelps” link;

-- By cheque. Please make cheque payable to “Animal Outreach”, and mail to Animal Outreach, 803 Waterloo Street, London, ON N6A 3W5.

All donations over $20 will receive a tax receipt.

Check back to The Cooperative for Companion Animals web-site frequently http://www.thecooperative.ca since announcements about the 'High Volume Spay and Neuter Service' will be updated as this initiative develops.

Please feel free to contact The Cooperative for Companion Animals
with any questions regarding our

ARFlings!!

ARF Angels come in all shapes, sizes AND AGES! ARFlings in the community (kids under 18) find their own unique and heartfelt ways to help the rescued dogs and cats. Check out the wonderful work done by these ARFling heroes!

Marisa Davies celebrated her 11th birthday by inviting her friends to a party at Laser Quest and asked that they bring something from the ARF wishlist instead of a present. Pictured above are some of the items received from her generous friends for the kitties and pups in need. She would like to thank her friends - Selena, Jordan, Lexi, Vanessa, Emily and Tyler for their generous donations.

Sisters Marley (age 5) and Kevay (age 3) had an art sale (by donation) and lemonade stand. All the money raised was to help ARF animals! They saved their money collected in their piggy bank and brought it all to present to ARF at the Children's Museum!

What a wonderful project for these young ladies to help save puppies and kitties through ARF! We could not do what we do without such wonderful events like this! Thank you Kevay and Marley for your hard work on behalf of the rescued animals.

Little Safiya Griffith-Turcott came to the Children's Museum to bring gifts to ARF.

For her 5th birthday Safiya and her mom asked her birthday party guests to bring gifts for the dogs and cats of ARF, instead of gifts for her.

She brought all of these gifts...litter, kibble, canned food, leashes and collars, toys and dollars to the museum and presented it to the ARF volunteers. She stayed and played with the kitties on display, and fell in love with little kittie Chaplin while she was there!

Thanks so much Safiya! The kittens and puppies at ARF thank-you and the volunteers do as well!

From ARFIE Susan Elgie:

I had a visit from a darling little boy who brough me things for ARF from his birthday.
Sam just turned six and for his birthday he asked for donations to ARF. He collected dog and cat food, toys, Kittie litter and $60.00 instead of presents for himself. Sam wanted to see where his donations would go and visited a foster home in London where he played the afternoon away with 4 ARF cats and asked a lot of very good questions about animal rescue.

Thanks Sam for your hard work in making the donation boxes and for your generous spirit!!

Thank you to our friends at International Name Plate Supplies!

The great people at INPS donated some awesome bumper stickers to help spread the word that
"Rescue Pets Rock!"
They'll be available at our events, so if you'd like one, come on out, meet some great puppies
and pick up a sticker to proudly display on your vehicle!
All the funds raised go to helping our rescued friends.
